Charlie-22 months Old
I almost have a 2 year old! Where did the time go?
Here is what Charlie is doing:
Sleeping:
He is still an excellent sleeper. We have occasional "blips" where is cries in the middle of the night (but we ignore unless it is longer than 5-10 minutes) and very occasionally cries when we put him down (maybe once every 2 weeks), but overall he cannot WAIT to get into his bed.
Naps are still going well with an occasional "blip" here as well. Sometimes if he sleeps in (until 7:30 or later) he has a hard time going down for a nap and thus doesn't. It doesn't worry us too much as he is generally still very happy the entire time. He just spends his 2 hours in his crib practicing his jumping skills.
Eating:
This has gotten "slightly" better. He has started to eat about 3 peas and maybe 4 blueberries every now and again. It did take me at least 10 times of introducing this food item to him and him denying me. He still loves guacamole, hummus, and my Texas Caviar. Meat is a hard thing for him, he almost NEVER chooses it. Sometimes he will eat it when in a taco shell, but even that is unlikely.
I often make him smoothies where I will blend in spinach leaves or a whole variety of fruits. He loves these. I never add sugar, just milk and yogurt and they are plenty sweet enough.
Development:
He is becoming more and more independent all the time. He puts away his shoes and his hats and mittens. He washes his hands (with our assistance), he runs and puts stuff in the garbage when we ask, he sets the table, he cleans up his toys (when we ask...and we need to be better about this!).
He is categorizing words quite well as in when he is sitting down for dinner, he asks for all "food" items. When we go to the YMCA he talks about the "Y" and "pool" and "water" but has yet to actually string them into a full sentence. He seems to ask us questions and look at us like we should respond with an answer, but we have no clue what he is saying. Where he was advanced at 18 months and doing this, his progress hasn't been too "stellar" since then. Tis okay...I am sure he will pick it up at his own pace. If not, there are lots of services out there. He probably has a good 50 or more words in his vocabulary, just not strung together in a sentence yet.
He loves going to the Family Center at Washington County. He learns to play with others really well, does a craft (loves gluing and coloring and painting) and then enjoys a snack and singing time. He also loves his Kiddie Kinectic Class where he can now hang from a bar by himself. He was so proud of himself. He wanted to do it for the entire hour (can you say boring for Momma?). He also ADORES the waterpark at the Y and asks at least 10 times a day to go there. We will go maybe once a week.
He has also started walking to the library and back pushing his cozy coupe. This is about a 1/2 mile round trip. He loves doing it and gets a ton of exercise and sleeps well afterward. He is gonna be a long distance runner, I can tell!
Behavior:
He is still a really sweet and gentle child. Sometimes almost too much so. But, I will take it. Tempers are rare, although they still happen. Charlie knows my "serious" voice extremely well and all I have to do it look at him in the eye and come down to his level and the behavior is stopped. We have a TON of fun, but he also takes me very seriously when I say no to something. If he starts to whine about something, I tell him what his two choices are (generally a good one and the other is "go back to the car" and he makes a good choice). He loves to be constantly busy, which is my goal as a mother (for the most part), to keep him busy. If there is ONE thing (and there are many) I learned from being a teacher is: the busier you keep them in an activity they enjoy, the less likely they are to get into trouble. True dat. He is busy, everyday of the week!
